Screening as part of the 2022 Providence Children's Film Festival, "Iro Iro Tree" is the output of a 9 month online collaboration between two cultures— Atami, Japan and Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Educators, animators and musicians worked together across the distance in 2020 to create this piece.

Industry Buzz

The 3rd Annual New England Film Star Award went to Lyralen Kaye for their web series “Assigned Female at Birth.” Read more about Kaye, their project, and the award in this release.

Nominations for the 28th annual Chlotrudis Awards were finalized by the film group’s nominating committee, ahead of its March 20th awards ceremony which the society will hold once again as a fully virtual event via Zoom.  Films helmed by women had a spectacular showing among the 47 films included: 43 nominations were earned by films directed by women.  See the complete list.

Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals have named Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner their 2022 Man and Woman of the Year. Bateman will be honored on Feb. 3 at Harvard, with a ceremony for Garner on Feb. 5. To learn more, visit the Hasty Pudding website.

Opportunities

Register now for the 2022 Maine Film Association’s Winter Film Challenge. Teams of Maine filmmakers will have 72 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film over Feb. 3-6, with the premiere on Feb. 12. Late registration deadline is until Feb. 3. For more information, visit the MFA website.
