Happenings

Celebrate the Provincetown Film Festival June 16-25. This year’s festival will include virtual and outdoor screenings and events. Special award recipients include Richard Linklater, Riz Ahmed, and Natalie Morales. Visit the festival website to learn more and purchase tickets.

Check out the Roxbury International Film Festival June 17-26. The festival will be a hybrid of virtual and in-person events. To purchase tickets and browse the full list of screenings and events, visit roxfilmfest.com.

The 34th Connecticut LGBTQ Film Festival runs June 4-13. The festival will include in-person and virtual screenings and events. Visit outfilmct.org for tickets and more information.

The Nantucket Film Festival will take place June 17-28. This year’s festival will be a hybrid of virtual, in-person, and drive-in events. Check out nantucketfilmfestival.org for a full list of programs and more details.

The Provincetown Film Society and the Provincetown Arts Society present “Friday Night at the Movies” this summer. The outdoor film series will feature movie musical screenings in the Mary Heaton Vorse House garden. This month, watch Funny Girl on June 4; On the Town on June 11; and Cabaret on June 25. Providence hosts a Motif Film Screening Series this summer. Local filmmakers are encouraged to submit to this series, which will take place on the second Tuesday of each month at DUSK in Providence through October. Learn more here.

Industry Buzz

Former Connecticut resident Michael Jai White plans to open Jaigantic Studios in New Haven. The proposed studio will include soundstages and offices, located in the Fair Haven neighborhood. White was raised in Bridgeport and attended Southern Connecticut State University; he is an actor, writer, director, and martial artist. Read more here.

Opportunities

The New Hampshire Film Festival is now open for film and screenplay submissions. Regular deadline is June 15; late July 15; extended screenplay August 1; extended films September 1. Learn more here.
