Film Festivals

The One Minute Video Festival will take place on March 7, 2003 at The Revolving Museum and the Evos Art Center in Lowell, MA. For more information on this evening of shorts by local, national, and international video artists please visit www.revolvingmuseum.org or www.evosarts.com

The 12th Annual Women’s Film Festival will screen films celebrating women’s lives through film and the visual arts. The festival runs March 7-23, 2003 in Brattleboro, VT, and is a major fundraising event for the Women’s Crisis Center of Windham County, VT. The Maine Jewish Film Festival will be held March 8-13, 2003 in Portland, ME. The festival will open with "The Believer," which won the Grand jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2002. In addition, there will be a Women Filmmakers Forum, a Gay and Lesbian Forum, and a Youth Program. For more information please visit www.mjff.org

The 28th annual New England Film & Video Festival runs March 24-29, 2003. Screenings will be held at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, the Brattle Theatre, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA). The Coolidge Corner Theater presents the 3rd Found Footage Festival March 28-29, 2003. The festival features unique clips of films from the vaults. More information is available at www.coolidge.org

The seventh annual the Hartford Jewish Film Festival, presented by the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center with Trinity College and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art will take place on March 29 – April 2, 2003. For more information, visit www.hjff.org

Efram Potelle and Kyle Rankin, who have produced films in Portland, Maine for the past decade, won the latest Project Greenlight contest. They are now in Los Angeles pre-producing the feature film for Miramax that they will be co-directing.

Future Media Concepts has created a special seminar FCP to the Max geared to intermediate and advanced Final Cut Pro users who wish to increase their skill level to become a more creative and efficient editor and digital artist. The annual Filmmakers Open Studios will take place on April 12 and 13 in venues throughout Cambridge, Boston, Allston, Brighton and beyond. The event enables the public to meet the Greater Boston community’s acclaimed filmmakers, tour production facilities, try out a class, screen recent work, and attend a panel discussion. SAG and AFTRA have announced the commencement of the Wages and Working Conditions Process. All SAG and AFTRA members who work the Commercials Contract are invited to attend the caucuses in New York and Los Angeles. The Commercials Contract expires on October 29, 2003. The Boston Society of Film Critics, made up of critics from print and broadcast media in the greater Boston area, recognized WIFV/NE’s Rewind/Fast Forward retrospective as one of the best local film series of 2002.

High Output has officially opened their new motion picture and television production facility in Canton — a 93,000 square foot complex located a short distance from Boston that houses 13,500 square feet of studio space. For more information, visit www.highoutput.com

John Marshall’s film "A Kalahari Family" will have its Boston premiere at The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) on March 20th 2003. The six-hour five-part documentary represents more than 50 years of Namibian History. The entire series will screen on March 22, 2003 with repeat screenings through March 31st 2003. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) and The Boston Jewish Film Festival presents a 10-screening series of filmmaker Frederick Wiseman’s latest film, "The Last Letter" ("La Dernière Lettre") through March 16, 2003. Screening times are available at www.mfa.org

"Southern Comfort" by Kate Davis and "Orphan" by Rich Moos will screen at Hoyt’s Nickelodeon Theater in Falmouth, MA as part on the Woods Hole Festival Winter Screening Series in March.
