Happenings

Check out the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival August 9-15. Screenings and events will take place in Providence, North Smithfield, Westerly, and virtually. Learn more at the festival website.

Celebrate the Woods Hole Film Festival July 31 through August 7. This year’s festival will include both in-person and virtual events. Check out a calendar, purchase tickets, and more at woodsholefilmfestival.org.

The Maine Outdoor Film Festival runs July 29 through August 8 in Portland. Catch outdoor screenings at the Eastern Promenade, Urban Farm Fermentory, and Gulf of Maine Research Institute. For tickets and more information, visit maineoutdoorfilmfestival.com.

Providence hosts a Motif Film Screening Series this summer. Local filmmakers are encouraged to submit to this series, which will take place on the second Tuesday of each month at DUSK in Providence through October. Learn more here.

The Provincetown Film Society and the Provincetown Arts Society present outdoor screenings in the Mary Heaton Vorse House garden this month. Watch The Wizard of Oz on August 13, followed by two events pairing dinner and film: Big Night with chef Michael Ceraldi on August 29, and Jiro Dreams of Sushi on August 31. The Coolidge Corner Theatre presents a few outdoor screenings this month. The Rocky Woods will host screenings of two Friday the 13th films on August 13, followed by Wet Hot American Summer and Final Girls on August 14. Kyra Sedgwick will shoot her upcoming film Space Oddity in Rhode Island. Sedgwick will direct the feature, which will film around the state. Read more here.
