Aimed at assisting New England-based filmmakers from marginalized backgrounds, this in-kind grant is a incredible opportunity for local filmmakers to access new resources and learn to refine their skills while working on their current projects.
It is free to apply, and the final deadline to apply is October 31, 2021. Finalists will be announced in November while the overall winner will be crowned the following month.
NewEnglandFilm.com is currently accepting applications for the New England Film Star Award. This in-value grant–worth about $3,000—is awarded annually to a New England-based filmmaker to support their current film and video projects. True to NewEnglandFilm.com’s stance on accessibility, it is completely free to apply for the award. Applications are being accepted now until October 31, 2021, with the list of finalists set to be released in November. The overall winner will be announced in December at the Women in Film/Video New England Annual Meeting.
Though all are welcome to apply for the New England Film Star Award, this grant is primarily catered towards benefitting filmmakers from underprivileged or marginalized backgrounds, including, but not limited to, women, BIPOC, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those marginalized by class or abilities.
In order to qualify for the grant, applicants must:
- Reside in one of the six states classified under the New England region (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island)
- Have a clear project or production plan in place upon application
- Clearly articulate in their personal statement how possession of this grant will benefit them as a result of their marginalized background/identity
2021 grant winners will receive:
- $650 Rule Boston Camera certificate for equipment rental
- Adobe Creative Cloud 1-year membership
- Women in Film Video New England (WIFVNE) 1-year membership
- One-on-one Script Note Session with a Stowe Story Labs mentor
- Production Mentor Session with members of the Animus Studios team (including one of the partners)
- Stage 32 one-hour mentoring call with an executive, one free Stage 32 class, and one free Stage 32 webinar
- Project Coaching Session with NewEnglandFilm.com Founder Michele Meek via Zoom
- Free website hosting for 2 years with Media Thinktank
