Once again, NewEnglandFilm.com will sponsor one New England fellow to attend the Stowe Story Labs during September in Vermont. Plus, this year, the award will feature year-round mentoring.

Stowe Story Labs, which runs labs and retreats for emerging screenwriters, filmmakers, and creative producers with the aim of getting work made and seen, will once again partner with NewEnglandFilm.com to offer a special fellowship for one New England participant. The fellowship will cover fees and meals at the Labs, and includes a free copy of Final Draft 10, courtesy of Final Draft.

The annual Stowe Story Labs—now in its fifth year—is an opportunity for emerging talents to learn about the industry from a project-centric approach. Top industry mentors take the participants through elements of story, such as theme, character, structure, and dialogue; how to pitch and package work (and the approach at the Labs to developing a pitch is truly remarkable); the art of collaboration required to make a film; and production and distribution. Working with mentors dedicated to encouraging and supporting new talents, Lab participants gain insights, build relationships, and advance their work.

“Stowe Story Labs is where writers of all levels can return to that vulnerable, unresolved place within our stories, within ourselves, and risk processing it before others, again and again. All comforted by the shared need to get it right, just this once,” says Amber Russell, the 2016 NewEnglandFilm.com Fellow, about her experience at the Labs.

Plus, this year, Stowe Story Labs is expanding its program. The Fall Lab will be the entry point for a year of ongoing mentoring and programming to help prepare your project to be made into a film or show.

Applications are currently open for the September Lab, which will take place on September 9-12, 2017 at the Helen Day Art Center in the village of Stowe, Vermont. All applicants from New England are automatically considered for the NewEnglandFilm.com Fellowships.
