Boston filmmaker Amy DePaola seeks Kickstarter support for her upcoming feature Laila B. The story follows Laila Bataglia, a bartender whose life is transformed when she is attacked outside her home. The film is inspired by events from DePaola’s life, and will include real footage of her boxing and training for October’s “Belles of the Brawl” at the House of Blues in Boston. As the campaign page explains, Laila turns to boxing after her traumatic experience, just as DePaola did in an effort to “find her authentic self” and “value what is really important.”

The film will shoot in South Boston this summer. Director, writer, and actor DePaola is an adjunct professor at Emerson College, where Laila B is her Master of Fine Arts thesis film. Greenview Entertainment, Strewnshank Productions, and Thompson Films are producing the project. Other team members include producers Katie Shannon and David Williams, and actors Kerri Sohn, Aaron Mathias, and Ernest Anemone.

The goal is to raise $7,000 by July 14th. Donations will help fund production costs, music licensing, training, marketing, and festival fees. Watch a short video, read more about the campaign and filmmakers, and make a contribution at the Laila B Kickstarter page.
