Executive director and CEO George T. Marshall gives us the skinny on the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
Number of Yearly Submissions: 5,114
Number of Films Typically Accepted: 216
What are you looking for when choosing which films you select?
Creativity and solid storytelling.
What are your biggest pet peeves from filmmakers?
Read your email. We are in constant contact with our filmmakers once they enter our Festival and provide ongoing updates about our adjudication process and upcoming networking opportunities for filmmakers. Many filmmakers simply do not check their email and we are not sending you spam.
What is your advice for filmmakers looking to apply to your festival, or to others?
We love discovering your work. You don’t have to oversell yourself with us. I am more interested in your work than where it played last or what award you won. Let the work speak for itself when you apply.
What is your advice to audience goers for how best to enjoy your festival?
Take in as much as you can. Last year over 200 filmmakers came to the Festival, many with cast and crew. They are sitting in the audience with you. Speak to them. Give them feedback on their work. Be interactive and soak up as much as you can. RIIFF is a visual and feast for the senses. Savor it.
