Question from Reader

Italian screenwriter looking for first representation

Hi. I’d like to send my script to a producers or director which are looking for new screenwriter. I’ve never had a script represented. Can you give me any suggestion? Thanks. Letizia Mario

Dear Letizia,

In my previous Ask the Screenplay Doctor columns, I have addressed how to get a screenplay into the hands of potential producers and directors, so please refer to these as well.

Here is a brief recap of my previous advice: Read and follow screenplay and film publications to see who is looking for new scripts and the types of projects (genres and budgets) they seek. Attending film festivals, script conferences, and pitch festivals, are all good ways to network and meet producers and directors. At these events, you can make personal connections and find people who share the same sensibilities. Some screenplay competitions offer various opportunities, such as agent representation and networking opportunities. Online Web sites, such as www.moviebytes.com list and rate screenplay competitions.
