Happenings

Check out the Hartford Flick Fest December 6–9 in Connecticut. Screenings will take place at Spotlight Theatres (39 Front Street) and include the Hartford-shot feature: Rising Star, written and directed by Marty Lang. Visit hartfordflickfest.com to learn more.

Gather your confidence for Regent Theatre’s “Sing-A-Long Sound of Music.” The event runs December 26–29 at the Regent Theatre (7 Medford Street, Arlington, Massachusetts). For more information, click here.

The Rhode Island Film Collaborative hosts their Black & White Party benefit on December 8th at 6:30 pm. The event will take place at Mixed Magic Theatre (1005 Main Street, Pawtucket), where Anne Mulhall will receive the Anthony Quinn Spirit Award. For tickets and more details, click here.

Just in time for the holidays, Rockland, Maine’s Strand Theatre presents a free screening of Christmas in Connecticut on December 22nd at 2:30 pm. The 1945 film stars Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan, and Sydney Greenstreet. For more information, click here.

Industry Buzz

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has recognized the Camden International Film Festival. The festival has been awarded a $10,000 grant for next year’s event, which will include two new special programs. To read more, click here.

The independent feature Breakfast with Curtis has been nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards. Written and directed by Rhode Island filmmaker Laura Colella, the film is nominated for a John Cassavetes Award. Learn more about the film here. Opportunities

The Salem Film Fest encourages Massachusetts college students to submit to the “Mass Reality Check” short film competition. Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate college students can submit documentary or experimental documentary shorts. Deadline is January 18th. Click here for rules and details on how to submit.

Yale University’s Environmental Film Festival is now accepting short and feature film submissions. Regular deadline is December 15th, late is January 15th, and extended is February 1st. Click here for more information.

The submission deadline for the Cambridge Community Art Center’s “Do It Your Damn Self!! National Youth Video & Film Festival” has been extended until December 31, 2012.
