Happenings

The DocYard’s winter program begins January 23rd with a screening of Space Coast at Cambridge’s Brattle Theatre at 7 pm. Get ready for the election year at Red River Theatres in Concord, New Hampshire this month. On January 2nd and 3rd, the theatre hosts screenings of the documentary The Premier Primary, a history of the New Hampshire primary. Discussion with filmmaker John Gfroerer will follow. The Jewish Community Center of Woodbridge, Connecticut hosts a screening of PBS’s Journey of the Universe on January 22nd at 2 pm. As the temperature starts to drop, check out the Brattle Theatre’s “Dead of Winter: Haunted Houses on Film” series this month. Marian, Madame Librarian… The New Haven Free Public Library in Connecticut hosts the Library Science Film Festival January 24–26. Industry Buzz

The Martha’s Vineyard Film Society has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts Challenge America Fast-Track program. Massachusetts native Kori Feener is at work on a new documentary entitled Alpine Zone. Production is scheduled to begin in March; the film will follow Feener as she hikes the Appalachian Trail. Feener’s previous film is Where There is a Will. To learn more, visit http://alpinezonefilm.com/.

Opportunities

The Maine Arts Commission deadlines for the Innovative Production and Jane Morrison Film Scholarship grants are this month. Maine filmmakers and artists are encouraged to apply by January 13th. Learn more at http://mainearts.maine.gov/grants.aspx.
