The Woods Hole Film Festival’s Dinner & a Movie independent film series continues on January 16th with a screening of Veit Helmer’s Absurdistan at the Captain Kidd Restaurant in Woods Hole, MA. Tickets are $25 per person and includes entree and movie, but does not include beverage, dessert, tax or tip. Dinner is served from 5:30 pm and the screening begins at 7:30 pm. Save The Bay will be hosting the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival throughout February as a fundraiser and awareness event. Festival venues are located in Stonington, CT, Newport, RI, and Providence, RI. The event’s website is http://www.savebay.org/Page.aspx?pid=1249.

Production house Motern Media will be premiering NH producer Matt Farley’s new film, Monsters, Marriage, and Murder in Manchvegas on Sunday, January 3rd, at 4:30p.m. at the Wilton Town Hall Theater in Wilton, NH. Admission is free.

Industry Buzz

Rhode Island filmmaker Chris Sparling’s film Buried will screen at the Sundance Film Festival which runs from January 21-31st in Park City, Utah. The premiere is scheduled for Saturday, January 23rd at 11:30 PM. Buried stars Ryan Reynolds (The Proposal) as a civilian contractor in Iraq who is attacked, kidnapped, and buried alive in the middle of the desert with nothing but a lighter, a candle, a cell phone, and a knife. The thriller was written by Chris Sparling, directed by Rodrigo Cortes, and shot this past summer in Spain.

Opportunities

The New Hampshire Film & Television Office is seeking submissions for the 2010 New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival, which will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord. Students from New Hampshire public and private high schools are encouraged to start planning and producing their projects, which do not have to be created as part of a class assignment. The submission period opens February 1, 2010 and closes on March 31, 2010. More details are available at http://www.nhstudentfilm.com.

The Team O’Neil Rally School & Car Control Center in Dalton, NH has made its property available for filmmakers. They offer 6.5 miles of dirt and gravel roads for high speed chases and skid pads. Fire trucks, water trucks, graders, and plows are also available on the six-hundred-acre property. http://www.team-oneil.com/.

The 13th Annual Maine International Film Festival will be held on July 9-18th, 2010. Film submissions for the 2010 festival are now being accepted. http://www.miff.org/submissions/.

The Sundance Documentary Fund, a program of the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program, is considering documentary proposals to be awarded development or production grants.
