Boston Film/Video Foundation presents a Meet The Director Series event with visiting director Rocky Collins from Los Angeles. Former Maine resident Collins will present his award-winning dramatic feature "Pants on Fire" and lead a master class the following night. The screening of "Pants on Fire" will take place Wednesday, December 8, 1999, at 7:30 pm at the Coolidge Corner Theater, 290 Harvard Street in Brookline, 617-734-2500. Tickets are $7.50 for general public and $4.50 for BF/VF and Coolidge Corner Theater members.  Rocky Collins will also lead a Master Class on Thursday December 9 from 6-9 pm at Boston Film/ Video Foundation, 1126 Boylston Street #201 (Hynes auditorium T-stop), 617-536-1540 ext. 18. Registration fee for the class is $20 for BFVF members and $30 for non-members.

MuseArts Cartoons of Somerville, MA, released the first of 13 episodes of "Guinea Pig Theater," Flash-based animations created for the Web. In this episode, the Greek tragedy "Prometheus Bound" is adapted for Spunky the short-hair, who is locked in his cage. Director Christopher Grotke says MuseArts plans to release one new episode each month over the coming year, as well as other short subjects, with the intention to build a library of stories and characters. The 5th Annual Mass Media Alliance Winter Wrap Party will take place on December 8 from 6:30 to 11:00 p.m. at Caprice Bistro. Tickets for full MMA members are $37.50; associate members, $42.50; non-members, $50.00. Prices are an additional $10 per ticket at the door. According to Bo Smith, the film curator at the Museum, "’The Jew in the Lotus’ is the most popular independent film ever shown at the MFA." As a result, an encore run of the film will screen on December 5 at 12:30 pm (with filmmaker Laurel Chiten in person), December 29 at 4 pm and December 30 at 4 pm.

The world premiere of "Once Removed" will  take place at the MFA, Boston this month.  The story tracks a young filmmaker who travels to China to meet her mother’s family after a 50-year separation. She discovers that her intellectual relatives have faced persecution, imprisonment, and even murder during their country’s convulsive political movements. Screenings: December 2 at 6pm (premiere); December 5 at 2pm; Sat. December 11 at 12 noon; Sat. December 18 at 2:15pm; Sun. December 19 at 12 noon. For more information: 617-369-3770. "Frank In Five," a digital short by local filmmakers Graham Streeter and Alex Lebosq, has been accepted into the Hollywood Shorts Film Festival. The filmmakers plan to present 1,000 copies to their friends and associates this month. "Frank In Five" is backed by production houses including Waves Sound, LA Digital, AVID, Symphony, ASIVA, and StickyNotes. For further information, contact Alex Lebosq at 323-954-0111.

The Harvard Film Archive presents "Curious Cinema: An Errol Morris Retrospective" December 10-19. HFA calls Morris "one of the leading nonfiction filmmakers of our time," and the retrospective covers his 20-year body of work. Morris will appear in person at the special advance screening of his latest film, "Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr.," on the 18th.
