Richard Kane
Richard Kane is a producer/director of arts documentaries and commercials living and working on the coast of Maine. "Ashley Bryan’s World" (aka "I Know a Man … Ashley Bryan") is Kane’s 3rd feature documentary and 16th film in his American Artist collection (aka Maine Masters), a New England Emmy-nominated series he directed, and has screened at ten film festivals to date as well as museums, libraries, and colleges across the US and Canada. "Imber’s Left Hand" was Kane’s 2nd feature documentary and to date has won four BEST FILM Audience Awards on the festival circuit screening from the National Gallery of Art to the National Gallery of Australia. His first feature "M.C. Richards: The Fire Within" won Best Film at the Image Gazer Film Festival in 2012 and is today regarded as a classic in the arts documentary world. Through his production company Kane-Lewis Productions he has worked for National Geographic, The Discovery Channel and the White House among others. Kane won a Cine Golden Eagle for the series "Faces of Microcredit" produced and edited for the Microcredit Summit (directed by Rob Rooy), chaired by then First Lady Hillary Clinton; wrote and produced for the White House "Technology: Renewing the American Dream", narrated by President Bill Clinton. Kane's second short film "Tough, Pretty or Smart: A Portrait of the Patoka Valley Boys" won Best Short Documentary at the Cork International Film Festival and was short-listed for an Academy Award. His 17th documentary in his American Artist series "J. Fred Woell: An American Vision" about this political artist/metalsmith will premiere September 21, 2017 in Stonington, ME, Woell's home town.
