Happenings

The Maine Outdoor Film Festival presents the Portland premiere of documentary 100: Head/Heart/Feet on December 11th at 7:30 pm. The film screens at Nickelodeon Cinema. For more information, click here.

We’re all counting on you; or rather, on the Coolidge Corner’s Science on Screen presentation of Airplane! on December 8th at 7:00 pm. MIT Professor R. John Hansman will introduce the classic comedy with a discussion of aeronautics. For tickets and more information, visit the Coolidge website.

Celebrate the 7th annual Rhode Island Film Collaborative Gala on December 13th at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. The theme for this year’s event is Steampunk Wild West. Purchase tickets and read more here.

Massachusetts Production Coalition presents two events this month: the Holiday MPC Party will take place on December 1st from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, and the Corporate Video & Media Seminar on December 6th at 9:30 am. To register and for more information, visit massprodcoalition.org.

The Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation Film Festival is December 6th. The festival will be held at the Phoenix at Sunday River (Newry, Maine) and feature screenings of Out on a Limb and Higher Ground. To learn more, click here.

Learn The Secret History of Wonder Woman with author Jill Lepore, followed by a screening of the 1974 Wonder Woman pilot, at the Brattle Theatre on December 3rd. Tickets to the book signing and screening are available separately at the Brattle website.

Bar Harbor, Maine’s Abbe Museum hosts a screening of Incident at Oglala for its 6th annual Native American Film Series on December 4th at 7:00 pm. Learn more here.

Industry Buzz

Bleed For This has been shooting in Rhode Island. Based on the true story of boxer Vinny Paz, Rhode Island producer Chad Verdi has spent several years developing the project, which stars Miles Teller, Aaron Eckhart, and Ciarán Hinds, directed by Ben Younger. Read more from the Providence Journal.

The miniseries Olive Kitteridge, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Maine native Elizabeth Strout, recently premiered on HBO. The series is set in Maine and was shot in Massachusetts. Read more from the Portland Press Herald.

The film Llyn Foulkes One Man Band has been submitted for consideration for Best Documentary at this year’s Oscars. The film is directed by Tamar Halpern and Christopher Quilty; Halpern’s short film Death, Taxes, and Apple Juice was shot in Maine and recently featured in the 2014 Online New England Film Festival. Opportunities

Boston Indie Mafia is accepting submissions of any genre up to 20 minutes in length (short & long form excerpts, works in progress) for their one-hour screening program at their Hobnob & Social on January 17.
