Every month, NewEnglandFilm.com highlights new local film projects looking for funding via crowd-sourcing. This month, we feature Acts of Desperation on Kickstarter. To feature your film in this series, e-mail editor@newenglandfilm.com.

Boston writer Nate Illsley and the filmmakers behind the upcoming narrative feature Acts of Desperation seek Kickstarter support. Richard Friedman will direct the film, with a cast including Judd Nelson, Quinton Aaron, Vince Lozano, and Sara Castro. The film is a comic thriller about a lot of desperate people: a cop, his wife, and more than a few criminals. Friedman has directed several films, including the most recent award-winning Halfway to Hell.

Donated funds will finance the entire film – salaries, equipment, post-production, and more. The cast and crew feel strongly about the film. As the Kickstarter page explains, “the truth is Hollywood movies don’t have to cost millions of dollars to be good. Especially not this kind of movie, that focuses on outstanding storytelling and people willing to work for less to get a great movie made.”

The filmmakers’ goal is to raise $50,000 by March 15th. A variety of prizes are available for those who pledge. To read more about the film, watch a short trailer, and donate, visit the Acts of Desperation Kickstarter page.
