Academy Awards Celebrations

Happenings

The Boston Student Film Festival will take place this month. Join them for their free Networking Night on Thursday, March 20 and an Awards Night and Screening on Saturday, March 22. The Brattle Theatre hosts the 2014 Chlotrudis Awards on March 16th at 4:00 pm. The Chlotrudis Society honors independent films. Nominees this year include The Spectacular Now, Frances Ha, The Hunt, and Mud. Learn more here.

The Camden International Film Festival continues its Engagement Summit: Aging in Maine program this month with a screening tour throughout the state. Documentary films that explore aging will visit several communities in Maine through July. For more details and a list of screenings, visit the CIFF website.

The Maine Jewish Film Festival runs March 22–29. The festival kicks off with an Opening Night Party and screenings of The Jewish Cardinal. Films screen in a few cities, including Portland, Rockland, and Waterville. The Berkshire International Film Festival, in partnership with Monument Mountain Regional High School, presents a free dinner and screening of the documentary A Place at the Table on March 13th starting at 5:30 pm. The event will take place at Monument High School (600 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington, Massachusetts). A panel discussion on hunger in Berkshire County will follow the screening. Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals recently honored Helen Mirren and Neil Patrick Harris as their Man and Woman of the Year. Read more about Mirren’s and Harris’s events.

The third annual ReelAbilities Boston Disabilities Film Festival had its highest attendance records yet at last month’s event. Presented by the Boston Jewish Film Festival, the event screened 17 films in Massachusetts. Read more at boston.reelabilities.org.

Opportunities

Submit now to next summer’s Nantucket Film Festival. There are several film submission categories and screenplay competitions. The deadline is March 3rd. Learn more here.

The Woods Hole Film Festival is currently accepting submissions. Early deadline for film and screenplay submissions is March 1st. the screenplay final deadline is April 10th; film final deadline is May 15th. Read the submission guidelines and more details at the Woods Hole website.
