Rhode Island filmmaker Laura Colella’s award-winning film Breakfast at Curtis has been extended at Providence’s Cable Car Cinema until December 5. On Wednesday, December 4, the film will also begin a week run at the IFC Center (323 6th Ave @ W 3rd St) with a Q&A following the first night’s screening. Industry Buzz

Two major films shot in Massachusetts hit theatres this month: American Hustle, directed by David O. Russell; and Labor Day, directed by Jason Reitman.

After the world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where IFC purchased the North American rights to the RI-produced Almost Human, the production team of Anthony Ambrosino and Nicholas Delmenico announced their next RI feature will be the drama Painless. Filming is tentatively scheduled to take place this winter in both Providence and Pawtucket, Rhode Island, as well as in New York City.

New England Studios, a new, state-of-the-art film studio located in Devens, MA, has opened for business this fall. The $41 million complex includes four 120-by-200 foot sound stages.

Opportunities

The Community Art Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts is currently accepting submissions for the upcoming Do It Your Damn Self!! National Youth Film Festival. Teens 13-19 years old and children 6-12 are encouraged to submit films up to 15 minutes long. Deadline is December 6.
