Summer film screenings are out in force! Head to Providence or the Boston Harbor Hotel for a fun summer flick this month. Check out the news for local films, upcoming festivals, and filmmaker opportunities. To submit news, e-mail news@newenglandfilm.com.

Happenings

Give yourself an extra scare and catch a late night showing of Jaws right where it was filmed at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center (79 Beach Road, Vineyard Haven). Screenings are July 5th and 6th at 10:00 pm. Tickets are $12 general admission, $7 for members. Learn more here.

Spend an evening with Boston Globe film critic Ty Burr at the Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on July 17th at 7:00 pm. The $31 ticket includes a copy of Burr’s book Gods Like Us: On Movie Stardom and Modern Fame, a beverage, and author Q&A/book signing. Movies on the Block is back in Providence, Rhode Island. Visit the corner of Westminster Street and Union Street on Thursday evenings this summer at dusk to watch feature films outdoors on the big screen. The Boston Harbor Hotel hosts outdoor movies this summer. Films screen Fridays at dusk following music performances. This month is E.T. on July 5th, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on July 12th, Bye Bye Birdie on July 19th, and The Sting on July 26th. Learn more here.

The Woods Hole Festival kicks off July 27 and runs through August 3. You can see a range of filmmakers with New England ties, including Oscar winner Ernest Thompson, premiering NH film Heavenly Angle, as well as Andrew Mudge’s The Forgotten Kingdom, Allan Piper’s Married and Counting, Maria Agui Carter’s Rebel, and Ryan Scafuro’s Bending Steel. Opportunities
