Happenings

The Boston Jewish Film Festival runs November 7–19. Highlights include Surprise Screenings and Female Helmers, four shorts by women filmmakers. Festival passes are available. Visit bjff.org to learn more.

Celebrate Vermont’s first annual Brattleboro Film Festival November 2-4 at the Latchis Theater. The festival will feature several Q&As. For a full schedule and more information, visit brattleborofilmfestival.org.

The SNOB (Somewhat North of Boston) Film Festival takes place November 8–11 at Red River Theatres in Concord, New Hampshire. The festival includes an amateur filmmaker contest to create a 30-second “turn off your cell phone” short, as well as films including Ashley Waits and Ultimate Bike Race Fan. Learn more here.

Out Film CT presents the Eros Film Festival November 7-11 at Trinity College. Films screen at Cinestudio. A free reception will take place on November 9th at 6:00 pm. For a schedule and more information, click here.

Winner of the Camden International Film Festival audience award, Jason Mann and Cecily Pingree’s documentary Betting the Farm is touring Maine this fall. The film follows the story of three Maine dairy farmers. Click here for a list of screenings.

The Joey Fund/Cystic Fibrosis Foundation presents the 28th annual Joey O’Donnell Film Premiere on November 4th. The benefit reception and screening will begin at the Natick Mall in Natick, Massachusetts at 6:30 pm. For tickets and more information, click here.

The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire presents the documentary Miss Representation on November 2nd at 7:00 pm. Presented with NH Women’s Initiative and Women’s Fund of NH, a panel discussion will follow the screening. For tickets and more details, click here.

Make for the North Shore! First up, the Cape Ann Film Festival runs November 1–18 in Gloucester, Massachusetts at the Cape Ann Community Cinema. Learn more here. Berklee College of Music and Emerson College host “Connecting Sound & Picture: A Networking Event for Visual Media, Music, and Sound Artists” November 1–3. Events, including guest speakers and screenings, will take place at both schools. Learn more here.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council has awarded $200,000 in grants to artist live/work spaces in Massachusetts. An additional grant will go towards developing more creative space. Read more here.

Alfred Thomas Catalfo is the winner of the Rhode Island International Film Festival’s Screenwriting Competition for his screenplay Betrayed, adapted from Brendan DuBois’s novel. Catalfo is also the filmmaker behind Rocketship, which recently won a jury award for Film of the Year at the New Hampshire Film Festival; learn more here.

Lionsgate and Televisa will shoot the pilot Terminales for ABC Family in Massachusetts. The show is based on a Mexican series. Read more from the Massachusetts Film Office here.

Local filmmakers have recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming documentary Opus 139, which focuses on the Massachusetts organ company C.B. Fisk. To learn more about the project, click here.

Last chance! The deadline to submit to the Maine Jewish Film Festival is November 1st. Visit the festival website for more information.

Kids are encouraged to submit to the Cambridge Community Art Center’s “Do It Your Damn Self!! National Youth Video & Film Festival.” Teens ages 13–19 or kids 6–12 can submit videos ten minutes or less. Submission deadline is November 26th.
