Happenings

Check out the Camden International Film Festival September 29th through October 2nd in Camden, Rockport, and Rockland, Maine. Special events include the Points North Documentary Film Forum, which concludes with the Points North Pitch, an opportunity for filmmakers to pitch projects they’re working on. The Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro, Vermont hosts the 2nd Annual Flickers North Country Film Festival September 30th to October 2nd. The Williamstown, Massachusetts theatre presents Muppets, Music & Magic: Jim Henson’s Legacy September 19–25 thanks to a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Highlights include film selections, a reception, and appearances by puppeteer Kevin Clash of Sesame Street. Providence, Rhode Island hosts Movies on the Block at Grant’s Block (corner of Westminster St. and Union St.) every Thursday through the end of this month. The Forest Park Film Festival in Springfield, MA, will be making its screenings open to the public on September 18th as a day of recovery for Springfield after its devastating tornado. Film producer Barri Evins is bringing his weekend screenwriting seminar, Big Ideas Boston Seminar, to Hingham September 30th to October 2nd. Industry Buzz

Production is scheduled to begin in Massachusetts this month on Universal Pictures’ supernatural feature R.I.P.D. The film will star Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges; Robert Schwentke directs.

3PASTMIDNIGHT Films has begun filming the feature Capture on Long Island, Maine. Read more about the thriller, directed by Cate Carson, at http://capturemovie.wordpress.com/.

Filming continues around Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, on Adam Sandler’s new film I Hate You, Dad. Filmmakers recently created a replica of the Green Monster at the Nathan Wixon Middle School in Dennis. Losing Control, the feature romantic comedy directed by Harvard Medical School graduate Valerie Weiss, has acquired distribution by House Lights Media. The film will be released early next year. Read more at http://www.losingcontrolmovie.com/.

Opportunities

Enter New London, Connecticut’s Whaling City Film Project September 23–27. Filmmakers will have four days to shoot and edit a short film that must feature a ship or boat, a New London landmark, a line of dialogue, and a character’s name. The WAM!Boston Film Festival is seeking entries for next spring’s event. Female filmmakers with stories about women are encouraged to apply. Submission deadline is November 1st. The Maine Jewish Film Festival is currently accepting submissions for next spring’s event. Films are free to submit; the deadline is November 15th. Learn more at http://www.mjff.org/submissions.

The Green Mountain Film Festival is now accepting submissions for its Margot George Short Film Competition. Films must be under 10 minutes and celebrate “Vermont’s historical and culturally significant places.” Submission deadline is December 1st.
